Biokinetic Services
Orthopaedic and Neurological
exercise programs
Orthopaedic programs involve exercises to help reduce the risk of injuries, or to help overcome deficits and/or limitations in existing injuries of the neck, back, shoulder, hip, knee and ankle joints. These may be acute or chronic in nature. Pre-and post- operative rehabilitation exercises are also provided in the form of ‘pre-hab’ and ‘rehab’ exercises which are specific to the nature and extent of the condition.
Neurological disorders include but are not limited to chronic headaches, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple sclerosis, Cerebral palsy in children and other movement disorders which require musculoskeletal exercise rehabilitation. These programs are aimed at decreasing chronic pain, and improving flexibility and functional capacity.
Chronic Disease exercise
programs and management
Through clinical assessment and exercise program prescription, a biokineticist may help in the prevention of, or management of conditions such as heart disease (heart attacks, stroke, stents, bypass surgeries, etc), hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, respiratory disorders, obesity and muscular dystrophy.
Postural Analysis
Poor posture impacts negatively on the optimal functioning of the various joints and surrounding muscles in our bodies. This can cause various body aches and pains, strains and other imbalances if not properly treated and corrected. The goal of the posture analysis is to facilitate body awareness and movement education. Activating the correct muscles to help us maintain the correct standing and/or seated posture.
Sport Performance Programs
Programs are specifically designed for both young and seasoned athletes who require some assistance or improvement in their sporting abilities. Programs are designed to help both men and women improve muscle strength and endurance, body composition, speed, flexibility, agility, power and reaction times.
Fitness Tests
Discovery Vitality can be performed by the member every year. Points are awarded based on your fitness level
General physical wellness
exercise programs
Programs can also be designed to cater for those who are new to exercise, or those who are returning to exercise after a break (e.g., post-natal). These programs help to answer the where, what, why and how questions which normally get asked.
The program will include strengthening, stability and flexibility exercises to help improve overall health and wellbeing.
